While shooting our brand new colour, Sky Blue, we were lucky enough to visit Shack in the Dunes and chat with Heidi about her inspiration when designing.

Q: Aside from being right on the beach, what’s your favourite feature of Shack in the Dunes?
A: One of my favourite features of Shack in the Dunes is the outdoor spaces. Whether it’s enjoying a morning coffee up on the dune or watching the sunset in the evening around the fire pit with a glass of wine.
Sometimes, nothing is better than a stay in the middle of winter curled up inside by the cosy wood fire with a good book to read.
Q: The interior of Shack In The Dunes is so calming. What was your inspiration when designing?
A: Our inspiration for designing the interior of Shack in the Dunes came from the desire to create a simple, calming space that felt homely and inviting. We blended old and new furnishings and incorporated collected pieces that tell a story. It’s filled with lots of character and charm which creates a relaxing atmosphere making the space feel personal and unique.

Q: What’s one thing guests absolutely have to see when they’re in Weymouth?
A: When visiting Weymouth, people love to experience its untouched and pristine beaches. deserted stretches of sand that offer a sense of seclusion, perfect for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of commercialized destinations. Visitors appreciate the true shack community vibe, which reflects a genuine, unspoiled part of Tasmania. In addition to the stunning beaches, Weymouth is also surrounded by beautiful vineyards and wineries, providing guests with the opportunity to indulge in local wines and enjoy scenic views of the countryside. Overall, Weymouth offers a unique and authentic experience.
Q: What makes Shack In The Dunes stand out from other stays in this area?
A: The charming exterior of Shack in the Dunes is sweet and appealing, making it the perfect destination for a honeymoon or romantic getaway. Additionally, being just a minute's walk from the popular River Beach in Weymouth—adds to its appeal. This is also very convenient for families. This little sheltered haven is ideal for swimming, kayaking, and fishing.

Q: When you were designing, did you have any happy accidents that ended up being exactly what the space needed?
A: Absolutely! One of the most delightful surprises during the design process was discovering just how much sand our shack was sitting in. We didn’t realise that the backyard was essentially a massive sand dune, which initially posed some challenges for landscaping. However, we embraced this unique feature and found ways to incorporate it into the design. The result is a stunning backdrop that enhances the overall experience of being outdoors. Sitting on the deck, surrounded by the natural beauty of the dune, truly adds to the tranquil and serene atmosphere we aimed to create.
