How Often Should You Wash Your Linen Sheets?

Posted: 20 January 2025

Slipping into freshly washed sheets after a long day has to be in the top 10 of life’s greatest moments. And, when those sheets are made from 100% French flax linen, well that's a whole different story (you’ll never want to leave your bed again).

As much as we love this feeling, knowing how often to change your sheets and pillowcases can be a challenge. With all the information on the internet (and there’s a lot of it), we’re here to break down how often you need to be washing your linen sheets.

Spoiler: there’s no one-size-fits-all answer.

Why do we need to wash our linen regularly?

Your bed is home to lots of things. It’s the place you unwind, recharge, and relax. So, over time your sheets collect all kinds of germs, sweat, sand… and maybe a few crumbs from that late-night snack (no judgement here).

But washing your sheets regularly is like hitting the reset button, it helps keep allergens and irritants at bay, making sure your bed stays fresh.

The general rule? Aim to wash your linen sheets every one to two weeks.

When should I wash my linen sheets more regularly?

Life happens, and sometimes you need to adjust. Here’s when you might want to wash more often or give yourself a little more time between cycles.

1. If you’re waking up in a sweat during summer, a weekly wash keeps your sheets fresh

2. Sniffling more than usual? Washing your sheets can help keep allergens in check

3. If your pet sleeps with you, a weekly wash helps manage the extra fluff

When can I leave my linen sheets a bit longer?

1. In winter, when you’re not sweating as much, washing every two weeks is just fine

2. If you’re hopping into bed squeaky clean every night, you can probably go a little longer between washes

When you love your linen, it loves you back

A little extra care goes a long way in keeping your linen bed sheets looking and feeling amazing. Here are 6 of our top tips…

1. Shake out your sheets before throwing them in the wash to get rid of any excess dust

2. Use something mild and eco-friendly to wash them with (we recommend Lucent Globe

3. Always wash your linen by itself in cold or warm water (maximum 40 degrees)

4. If you have the space, air drying is the way to go. Otherwise, a low-heat tumble works too

5. Place pillowcases in a delicates bag to avoid any unwanted snagging

6. Have 3 sets on rotation, with one set on the bed, one on the line, and one set in the linen closet

How often you wash your sheets depends on you and your lifestyle. Whether it’s weekly or every other week, the main goal is to make sure you get the best night's sleep.

Every wash is just another way to show a little love to your space, so the more the merrier!
