Why is some linen more textured than others?
Posted: 31 January 2025
While it’s no secret that linen is the best of the best when it comes to bedding (eco-friendly, durable, and breathable), there are subtle differences between our natural, patterned, and solid-coloured linens - here's why.
Linen is a natural fibre, derived from flaxseed.
This means it's eco-friendly but it can also vary in texture, depending on it's weaving process.
Since no two linens are created equal, the way they’re crafted plays a big role in how they look and feel.

Natural Linen Sheets
Linen is naturally beige (and we love it just the way it is). So, when you opt for natural linen, you’re choosing the most authentic version of this fabric, undyed, effortlessly luxurious, and as close to its raw form as possible.
Of course, all our linen is stone-washed, but, skipping the dyeing process means the natural fibres don’t get that extra softening treatment. Therefore, your linen might feel a bit more textured, which only enhances its durability.

Patterned Linen Sheets
Our Beige Gingham and striped linen bedding not only looks great but is also crafted with a unique two-tone weave, giving it a subtly textured finish.
Patterned linen is still dyed but is woven with two different yarns, adding depth and texture, unlike solid-coloured linen, which has a smoother finish.

Solid Colour Linen Sheets
These linens undergo an additional dyeing process which softens the fibres a bit more and brings a burst of colour (using non-toxic dye, of course).
This means that our solid colour range is soft right from the start thanks to this extra process.
How to Soften Natural and Patterned Linen
Simply wash and go.
All our linens are great to sleep in from the very first night, however, if you’re after something a bit softer, you can throw them in the washing machine.
We also recommend tumble drying on a cool setting to speed up the process, this makes the linen softer in comparison to line drying - check out our care guide for full washing instructions.
